Skate Away the Winter Blues
Skating at Brookfield Zoo
Chicago Zoological Society
All that glistens is not necessarily ice! The Chicago Wolves Skating Rink located on Brookfield Zoo’s East Mall is manufactured from Glice, a composite of heated layers of polymers that requires no water or electricity for hours of operation. The benefit, of course, is the pleasure of skating outdoors on warmer days, with no fear of melting ice. The rink is open daily from noon to 4:30 p.m. You may skate for as long as you please for $7 per person. The zoo has a limited supply of skates for rent, and guests are welcome to bring their own.
The refrigerated rink at Parkway Bank Park in Rosemont offers free public skating daily until Jan. 5 and every Sunday evening until Feb. 23.
Of course, the suburbs are dotted with outdoor rinks run by area towns and park districts. Call for hours and ice conditions.
