Chicago and Evanston restaurateur Amy Morton brings her signature fare and flair to west suburban Aurora with the recent opening of Stolp Island Social, located at 5 E. Galena Blvd. (630 340-4980). Sitting on the banks of the Fox River and adjacent to the iconic Paramount Theatre, the restaurant capitalizes on the site’s historic ambiance. Morton describes the vibe as “1920s Aurora meets Coco Chanel today!” The open space is filled with light from floor-to-ceiling windows and is broken into a series of warm, intimate rooms, with a wood-paneled lounge, salon-style art, vintage settees, cocktail tables and spectacular period fixtures.
The menu follows Morton’s core principle of local sourcing, with as many items as possible coming from nearby farms, breweries and distilleries. The seasonal kitchen — which is open for guests to view — draws on rustic grains and fresh vegetables, plus premium cuts from Slagel Family Farms. Menu items include Roasted Tomato Hummus with smoked carrots, radishes and baby gem lettuce, Burrata & Eggplant Ragout, Farm Steak Frites, and Chicken 3 Ways (braised, confit and pan-seared) with fregola and leek purée. The 20-oz porterhouse is the star of the steak options, and there’s also a prime burger generously topped with melted cheese and onion rings.Edit Module
