Slow-smoked bbq plus scratch-made sides and desserts in Downers Grove
At City Barbeque, the “bark”— or the jerky-like crust that forms on slow-smoked meat — is just as good as the bite. Soon to open at 1034 Ogden Ave. in Downers Grove (630 869-1313), this is the fourth Chicago-area restaurant for the Ohio-based chain, including one in west suburban Berwyn.
Three on-site smokers burn local hickory wood — all day and night, slow and low — to serve up ribs, pulled pork, sausages and brisket as well as free-roaming Amish farm chicken. Sauces created from award-winning recipes, like the white ‘Bama sauce doused onto the pulled chicken sandwich or the “original” brushed over the St. Louis-cut ribs, are available by the bottle to take home.
A menu of handcrafted sides offers comfort-food favorites like cornbread, mac & cheese, hush puppies and collards. There are also in-season options like Cukes ‘n Onions or Citrus Pecan Slaw.
Desserts are a taste of home, too. Choose from peach cobbler, banana pudding or triple chocolate cake. Sweet teas, lemonades, and old-fashioned bottled sodas, plus personalized service, make for a fun — but lip-smackingly serious — barbeque experience.Edit Module
