Cadence Kitchen & Co.
Good beats and great eats is how chef-owner Todd Davies describes Cadence Kitchen, newly opened at 5101 Mochel Dr. in Downers Grove (630 442-7631).
Davies and co-owner Tim Canning, who shares the chef’s hat, dreamed for 25 years of creating this unique space. Once the site of Lemon Tree Grocer, the building has been redesigned into a gathering place that combines upbeat ambiance with upscale food. Since music, from classics to blues to modern, is part of the experience, the acoustics are top notch, helped by walls artfully covered with wood salvaged from seven barns, soft oriental rugs and stay-a-while couches.
The food at Cadence is party to the popular farm-to-table movement, with locally sourced ingredients on a seasonally rotated menu. Small plates, like the beer braised mussels or the roasted Brussels sprouts with duck confit, are nicely paired with a seven-ingredient house salad — or the candied bacon version.
Entrées include Steak Fattie, a 12-oz ribeye with short rib poutine, gorgonzola and overnight tomatoes. Also popular are the honey-mustard salmon, the wild mushroom risotto, and the seasonally prepared octopus.
Cadence has inside seating for 175 and more on the flower-decked patio, a perfect spot to choose from a medley of house-crafted desserts.Edit Module
