The Walldogs are back! The internationally renowned traveling troupe of master painters is coming to Streator to help commemorate the city’s 150th anniversary by painting 16 magnificent outdoor murals throughout the downtown area. The four-day event will get underway on the evening of June 27, when artists will project images onto the walls of downtown buildings. In addition to the Walldogs — a core group of highly skilled mural and sign painters from around the globe — 200-plus local and regional artists are expected to converge upon the town, brushes in hand, to help paint the historic scenes. By July 1, 16 retro-inspired murals depicting themes like Streator Baseball, Glass Capital of the World, and In the Good Old Summertime will echo the heart and history of Streator, a town of almost 14,000 located on the Vermilion River about 80 miles southwest of Chicago.
In planning since 2014, the “Murals and Milestones” event will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Walldogs as well as Illinois’ Bicentennial. The Walldogs last appeared in Illinois in 2009 when they painted 18 murals in Pontiac.Edit Module
