Artisanal spirits, craft cocktails, cool brews and Americana comfort foods are at the heart of Two Brothers Barrel House, which has taken the place of The Craftsman at 16 W. Jefferson Ave. in Naperville (630 615-7100).
The two-story bar and restaurant by entrepreneur brothers Jim and Jason Ebel has converted into a friendly neighborhood tavern with warm brick walls, beamed ceilings, wooden floors and, of course, beer barrels. An oversized U.S. flag signals that homestyle American fare is prominent on the menu.
Hand-crafted half-pound burgers are front and center, with spirited choices like the Whiskey Mushroom — sautéed ‘shrooms and cheddar cheese are piled high on a toasted pretzel bun. The Ole Smokey has a coffee BBQ sauce, thick-cut bacon and crispy onion rings.
The same sauce dresses the Barrel House Ribs entrée, which comes with a side of honey-butter cornbread. A veggie Gardener’s Pie, Shrimp & Grits, a Rustic Ribeye and Buttermilk Fried Chicken are among the comfort food favorites, with sides that include tater tots, garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies.
For dessert? Try a sumptuous handspun milkshake — a shot of whiskey, vodka or rum is optional.Edit Module
