Capturing a Moment
Photo by Barbara Parisi, Courtesy of Forest Preserve District of Will County
A mother and baby fox squirrel caught in a loving embrace won the hearts of judges in September’s Preserve the Moment, a photo contest run by the Forest Preserve District of Will County. Channahon resident Barbara Parisi snapped the shot while visiting Kerry Sheridan Grove in McKinley Woods. An avid birder and amateur photographer, Parisi said she spends as much time as possible in the Channahon preserve. Her photo will be one of eight finalists competing for top honors — and a $500 first place prize — at the end of the year.
Preserve the Moment is just one of several contests around the western suburbs that offer opportunities for amateur nature photographers including:
• Take Five, DuPage County Forest Preserve
• Cook County Forest Preserves Photo Contest
• Friends of the Fox River Photography Contest
In addition, Mayslake Nature Study and Photography Club offers a list of local places to capture Illinois birds, wildlife, flora and fauna. The club also offers outings, a monthly newsletter, camaraderie with other nature lovers — oh, and a photo contest of its own.Edit Module
