Hot, sweet and spicy flavors merge at Mora Asian Kitchen, newly opened at 201 Harrison St. in Oak Park (708 613-4546). This is the third in a local chain of upscale-casual restaurants devised by siblings Jason, Christine and Mike Morales. The bright, airy space with exposed brick, custom wood accents and an open kitchen, has an “exotic yet hip urban feel,” designed to appeal to Oak Park diners, says Jason.
Executive chef David Lam creates Filipino-forward dishes that playfully blend American and Pan-Asian cuisines. For instance, the Adobo Fried Rice stars pork belly, crispy scallions and a garlic, soy and vinegar sauce. Kare-Kare Wings are steeped in a peanut and coconut macadamia gravy. Fusing of Asian flavors and American presentation, the Longanisa Burger combines pork sausage and ground beef with Filipino yum sauce. Among the sushi selections is one that is “rolled” inside a mason jar filled with smoke. A perfect accompaniment to Asia-inspired fusion cuisine, a sake bar allows diners to choose from over 12 selections of warm and cold sakes. There are also extensive lists of beers, wines and signature cocktails. On Sundays, a brunch menu offers an Asian-fusion spin on classic breakfast dishes, such as the Emperor’s Benedict, topped with a coconut curry hollandaise.
With sister locations in Bolingbrook and Plainfield, Mora Asian Kitchen is open daily and seats 85.Edit Module
