Wild Onion Tied House
Pioneering craft brewery opens new restaurant in Oak Park
"We’re proud to be one of the area’s first craft breweries,” says Mike Kainz, founding brewmaster of the family-owned Wild Onion Brewery in Lake Barrington that became operational in 1997. Now Kainz has another reason to be pleased, with the recent debut of Wild Onion Tied House at 1111 South Blvd. in Oak Park (708 628-3553). The 146-seat restaurant, overseen by Executive Chef Josh Wight, offers a seasonally adjusted menu featuring free-range chicken, skirt steak with smoked truffle onion butter and pappardelle tartufo — as well as an opportunity to try some of the 17 beers on tap. Diners also can try mac ‘n’ cheese, smoked chicken wings and reuben paninis, among other dishes.
In early December, Kainz says, the brewery will release drago, a strong Russian Imperial stout-style beer.
Wild Onion Tied House is open Tues. and Wed 3 p.m. to midnight; Thur 11 a.m. to midnight; Fri and Sat 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sun 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The company operates its bustling microbrewery and a restaurant under the same roof at 22221 N. Pepper Rd, Lake Barrington.Edit Module
