Art goes hand-in-hand with community service in St. Charles
Art and good deeds go hand in hand in the western suburbs, as a vibrant new sculpture on the Riverwalk in St. Charles readily attests. Installed this summer, The Key, by Guy J. Bellaver, was commissioned by The Gratitude Project, an initiative to reward those who have served the community in significant ways. This piece honors Vern and Sharon Oie, whose volunteerism has been instrumental in the formation of such organizations as the Downtown St. Charles Partnership and the River Corridor Foundation. Bellaver’s two-piece structure is about vision, suggesting a keyhole that can be unlocked to open up new possibilities for the community.
A resident of St. Charles, Bellaver works in stone, wood and glass as well as metals. He has created more than 30 pieces of public art, and his sculptures are in private collections in the United States and Europe.Edit Module
