Flagship on the Fox
Creative takes on classic bar fare with a fun casual ambiance in St. Charles
Market fresh, never frozen and served with time, effort and care — that's how owner Steve Mayer describes the menu at Flagship on the Fox, which opened over the summer at 100 S. Riverside Ave. in St. Charles (630 549-7672).
With a large sunny patio that overlooks the river and a bright, colorful interior, the restaurant has a casual, fun-loving vibe — note the swing chairs, community tables, and TV and video game screens.
Mayer, who owns two other restaurants — Flagship in Lakeview and Ironisde in River North — has recently moved to St. Charles. With Executive Chef Alberto Lopez he has created a menu that combines all-fresh ingredients into colorful dishes that are at once familiar, yet tease the palate with unexpected flavors. Take, for instance, the popular grilled cheese selections — there's the buffalo chicken, the bbq pork and the mac 'n cheese versions. A menu favorite is Flagship's steak sandwich,
a prime NY strip with sriracha onion rings, guacamole, arugula, cherry pepper, chihuahua and chipotle mayo on a Tuscan cheese roll.
Burgers include one with applewood smoked bacon and another with poached pears and gorgonzola. A slate of appetizers stars avocado toast and Wisconsin cheese curds.Edit Module
