Wasabi Restaurant & Bar

Come for the ramen, stay for the sushi — both Japanese specialties are flavorfully and colorfully represented at the newly opened Wasabi Restaurant & Bar at 5130 Main St. in Downers Grove (630 395-9959). Better still, the restaurant serves a range of modern Asian fusion dishes, bringing in flavors from Thai, Malaysian, Korean and Chinese cuisine.

The cozy yet modern multi-level space includes a full bar serving craft beers on draft and by the bottle, plus a spacious cocktail lounge.

A busily staffed sushi counter offers dozens of rolls and sashimi, all with ultra-fresh ingredients. There are more than 20 chef-created specialty rolls starring eel, squid, crab, octopus, scallops and other seafood delicacies. The commitment to freshness carries over into deeply flavored ramen dishes, featuring house-made noodles. Other Japanese options include teriyaki, tempura, udon and yakisoba.

Switching to Asian fusion dishes, the Malaysian Style Chow Fun combines flat rice noodles with chicken and shrimp. There’s a Panang curry chicken, red or green Thai curry, pad Thai, Korean barbecue beef short ribs and  Korean seafood bowls. A wide selection of authentic Chinese dishes, from Kung Pao Chicken to Lo Mein with chicken, beef or shrimp round out the extensive menu.
